We have a Xerox Phaser 7700 that prints a yellow line on both sides of the paper from time to time. I can't figure out why it happens or how to stop it. " questions, but I live in hope Does any supplier/manufacturer of paper, printers or ink supply a set of recommended ink levels for a given setup? For example, we all know newspaper stock has a low total ink threshold before problems occur with over-saturation. Equally, high density/coated stock can have a high total ink coverage. Silkscreen has been really fun so far. Since it's a new discipline I have had to figure out allot of stuff, learn new stuff. My first thought is: what printing process are they using for the displays? If you are using screen printing, then 100 lpi is sufficient. Images taken with a digital camera should be large enough to use for this purpose, but ones from a stock house may not be. As long as you are not attempting to cover the whole display with one image, you should be able to resize these easily in Photoshop. cheers beer monster. saving as pdf from AI does work, thanks. I did a bit of reading myself and am getting the hang of flattening trasnparencies aswell. saving as an EPS then exporting to ID. I think one of my problems was not flattening everything that interacted with the transparency. heres another related problem though. Joe, I think what people really do not realize what FreeFlight is all about. This was made by a pre-press guy, for pre-press use. This is really not meant for designers and artists to use unless they know what they are looking for. This is a tool to make sure the files that are being sent to you are correct. I am not sure if this is the right tool for everyone to try to use, but it is a great tool to save time, which in turn saves money. If you only work on a few jobs a day, different story. I'd like to know how someone is able to use a one bit tiff without the person or RIP knowing where it will be used. Thats flying blind, which makes no sense. Lets take a 4 color magazine at 120+ pages, drop the one bit tif in, and see how it flys. We'll waste lots of plates and lots of press time to find out that nothing is trapped, all the pages have solid blacks with no color behind it, and no bleeds or marks. Hello Leif, It has been a long time since I heard from you. The 1/8" bleed is a fixed and hard coded parameter and would require a custom version rewrite to do it. The robot settings are all dialed into industry standards. So, I would recommend just to run this job out manually to accomodate this odd job. If this will be a regualr and recurring job, it may justify cost of doing a custom robot for you. It's not real expensive, a few hundred bucks. It is always safer to print a postscript file from Quark and then
distill it, rather than exporting from Quark. If you can't find the file
after its distilled, try relaunching the Finder. Sometimes happens to me
too. _ It's bad luck to be superstitious. Create a picture box with (4)
rounded corners, copy and paste in place... change the newly pasted box
to regular straight corners and make it smaller by dragging the top down
until it clears the curve of the first box... select them both and go to

Dealing with the large companies is like dealing with the cable, or phone company. PC with an updated win XP. I had no problem with the InDesign CS3 installation. I do not have CS2 in this PC but I have it in another. I tried creating an empty document with CS2 and I can open it. But if I try to open a non empty file, the program suddenly quits while loading. The most far I got was removing all pages and leaving only the master ones. Then I am able to open the file, but when I click to see the master pages, InDesign gets closed again . I also tried saving the CS2 document in .inx, but still the same. Yes, I know it's a bit strange xD . I tried uninstalling and installing again and the same prob... - Read More..

Preps is hard to learn but has an amzing amount to features. Quite Impositing has a way to build an imposition, then record the steps, then apply these steps to other impositions. I personally use PDF Snake, but my imposition requirements are quite simple - in my simple world, it is all cut sheet 4 up type work for digital printing (on demand books). I have created an excel spread sheet that enables the user to enter the book page size and then the imposed page size and it figures out the settings automatically - i tried to learn Python well enough to have it convert it auto-magically but i am too stupid apparen... - Read More at This Link..

Apple patents iPod-crippling anti-theft technology

Considering the heat Apple is facing over the battery in the iPhone, this article was amusing to say the least. Apple has patented and may in the near future employ an anti-theft mechanism in the iPod, one that permanently disables charging. The idea is that if an iPod is stolen and then later attached to an “unauthorized” PC, the device will recognize the machine as such and then disable its ability to charge – forever. It does this through the use of an intelligent circuit that can prevent charging if it fails to find a proper security code on “authorized” machines. What exactly qualifies a machine as “authorized” isn't mentioned, nor if the device would be able to be unlocked if it was later recovered by the proper owner... or what would happen if the “authorized” machine needed an OS X reinstall. Still, the concept is interesting. You can read the patent filing for the tech.

iPod accessory, iPod speakers for iPod mini, what's available?

I think the first accessories I'm going to look at are speakers. I want to be able to use my ipod or ipod mini to use a regular set of speakers, like a base station maybe, where I can dock the ipod and use it like a home stereo. Maybe even if I could use the apple ipod mini at say a portable event, like for my daughter to practice cheerleading or to play it in the garage when I'm working in there.

The older 20gb iPod and the 40gb iPod had similar accessories. I'm looking around to see if iPod mini and or iPod shuffle has same type of accessory. I think external speakers is a very important accessory to check on. I'm going to see what I can find with regard to iPod speakers next as a primary accessory.

I am about to get a new iPod mini, or even maybe an iPod shuffle and I'm wondering about the difference of these two with reagard to accessories. I'm next going to look at all the available accessories like cases, covers, skins, speakers, battery, etc.

I'm going to find out what is available for these newer iPods, I know that for the 20gb iPod and the 40gb iPod there were more, ipod cases, iPod skins, and iPod covers available. You know if there's not as much stuff that goes with the newer iPods, iPod Mini and iPod shuffle, I guess could influence my desicion a little.

I guess the price of the iPod mini and iPod shuffle are quite a draw for me. As long as the cost of an iPod case or iPod cover and maybe iPod speakers is not more expensive than the ones for the 20gb iPod & 40gb iPods. I'm going to post the results of whatever I found out.
