so you're not necessesarily the "typical" desighner - in which case then excellent. i've extolled the virtues of designers communicating with whoever receives their files before submission - if that's what you do then from my perspective, and i do mean this sincerely, you are one of the few who actually want to take responsibility of their artwork and "own" it through the processes. I deal with hundreds of designers (dont we all) and i've had precious few adopt the attitude. if you rang me and asked, i'd simly ask for fonts as outlines and i'll see what the rest is like. whether I have enough "machinery" to de... - Read More at This Link..

Preflight Software :: RE: Is Free Flight better than PitStop PDF Profile Panel
Joe, I think what people really do not realize what FreeFlight is all about. This was made by a pre-press guy, for pre-press use. This is really not meant for designers and artists to use unless they know what they are looking for. This is a tool to make sure the files that are being sent to you are correct. I am not sure if this is the right tool for everyone to try to use, but it is a great tool to save time, which in turn saves money. If you only work on a few jobs a day, different story. If you need to get out lots of files, as it seems you do JP, then it is a must. - Read More at This Link..

Digital Printing Forum :: Kodak NexPress M700 <OR> Canon imagePRESS C7000VP?
I have read that the new Kodak NexPress M700 is based on the Canon imagePRESS C7000VP print engine. From what a salesman said at GraphExpo the NexPress M700 has more user-replaceable components than a Canon ImagePress C7000VP. He says it, the Kodak will deliver us greater uptime and productivity. Kodak says that with their solution there will be less service calls. Also, if the Kodak has less service calls then the cost of ownership to own a Kodak Nexpress m700 will be less than if my boss buys us a Canon ImagePress C7000VP. Does anyone know anything a... - Read More at This Link..

Preflight Software :: RE: FreeFlight doesn't catch RGB tifs?
Hello Craig, Just sent you an email. Thanks for the input, if the tiff(s) aren't too large, can you send me copies in an attachment? I can take up top 10MB in each email. Then I can re-test, see if I can repeat the error. If I can repeat it, then I begin checking the files to see how I may be able to improve the filer filters. thank you so much for participating to make the FreeFlight a better application. The filters are set to be pretty descriminating. Many times I was trying to make it where a file problem would not cause an error, it would cau... - Read More at This Link..

I'd like to know how someone is able to use a one bit tiff without the person or RIP knowing where it will be used. Thats flying blind, which makes no sense. Lets take a 4 color magazine at 120+ pages, drop the one bit tif in, and see how it flys. We'll waste lots of plates and lots of press time to find out that nothing is trapped, all the pages have solid blacks with no color behind it, and no bleeds or marks. YEP, that sounds like fun - Read More at This Link..

Prepress Software :: RE: PDF-X-Robot define bleeds

Prepress Software :: RE: PDF-X-Robot define bleeds
Hello Leif, It has been a long time since I heard from you. The 1/8" bleed is a fixed and hard coded parameter and would require a custom version rewrite to do it. The robot settings are all dialed into industry standards. So, I would recommend just to run this job out manually to accomodate this odd job. If this will be a regualr and recurring job, it may justify cost of doing a custom robot for you. It's not real expensive, a few hundred bucks. But if it's just a single job or two I would just output it manually. I'm glad to hea... - Read More at This Link..

i don't think TransType Pro can solve you problem. the best way you try to get the Adobe FontFolio 11 for mac & pc to made the font become opentype face , it will solve the cross over platform problem. - Read More at This Link..

Graphic Design : Quark Xpress 7 vs. Adobe Indesign CS3

Graphic Design Forum :: RE: QUARK V INDESIGN
===========================
Hey everyone! Just joined the forum today, and couldn't find an
introduction thread, so I might as well start here. My first design app
was Quark 4 in college, and I've been using it on a daily basis ever
since. I'm now using Q7 (on a XP machine both at home and at work), love
it, and can get everything done with it in a hurry. I really do need to
sit down and learn InDesign, but it's just a matter of finding time to
do so. That's where the industry is headed, and I can do basic tasks and
editing with it, but it feels very foreign to me, and nowhere near as
fast. So long story short, I can ... - Read More..

It is always safer to print a postscript file from Quark and then
distill it, rather than exporting from Quark. If you can't find the file
after its distilled, try relaunching the Finder. Sometimes happens to me
too. _ It's bad luck to be superstitious. Create a picture box with (4)
rounded corners, copy and paste in place... change the newly pasted box
to regular straight corners and make it smaller by dragging the top down
until it clears the curve of the first box... select them both and go to
Item > Merge > Union. Hope that makes sense! lol ... - Read More..

WebMaster's Forum :: RE: Service

WebMaster's Forum :: RE: Service
Exactly, I started hosting my web DESIGN clients myself after years of dealing with many web hosting companies. Oh, The horror. Dealing with the large companies is like dealing with the cable, or phone company. You never get a human and when you finally do get some one, they often can not fix the issue in a timely manor. often times they are sitting in a remote call center and actually CAN NOT fix any issue. They can only forward it to the real support people...eventually. Anyway, I cured all that by hosting the sites myself on my own state of the art servers. Now, Life is good. ... - Read More at This Link..
